Ferocactus Pringlei

Image 1 Image 2 Image 3

Ferocactus pringlei is commonly known as one of the Baja fire barrels native to Mexico. The "fire barrel" moniker comes from the incredibly deep red spines on this barrel cactus. Ferocactus pringlei blooms from May-September and has red flowers. It's a slow grower, grows to be three feet and typically clusters as it matures. Five gallon plants average 8" wide and 8" tall. Ten gallon plants average 14" tall and 14" wide.

Ornamental Uses:

Xeriscaping: Ferocactus pringlei is commonly used in xeriscaping and desert-themed gardens due to its impressive size and striking appearance.

Landscape Accent: The large and architectural nature of Pringle's Barrel Cactus makes it a popular choice as a focal point or accent plant in outdoor landscapes.

Container Gardening: In regions with colder climates, Ferocactus pringlei can be grown in containers and moved indoors during the winter to protect it from frost.

Drought-Tolerant Gardens: The cactus is well-suited for water-wise or drought-tolerant garden designs, as it can thrive in dry and arid conditions.

Barrel design and application suggestions:

Barrel cacti are very low maintenance and offer subtle beauty and interest. Our golden and red barrels offer great low maintenance color options for container gardeners or those looking to spruce up a landscape. A potted arrangement of cacti and succulents can always use a few barrel cacti for interest and contrast. In the landscape in suitable environments, barrel cacti look phenomenal in groupings. Barrel cacti will take relentless all day sun and moderate cold to the low twenties at night.

Why purchase our Barrel Cacti?

Our barrel cacti are grown in their native habitat right here in Southern Arizona. Raised outdoors with just the right amount of water and fertilizer, they come to you in their natural form. These plants do not come to you from a greenhouse. They are already hardy to whatever growing conditions you have to offer. Our barrel cacti present the same appearance as you will find them in their native habitats.

If you want to plant them in a container for a sunroom, patio or window planter, great! If you want to take your agaves and plant them in the ground, also great! No acclimation needed. Our plants are ready to go!

Exceptional Ferocactus Pringlei

This Mexican Fire Barrel arrived quickly after purchase & came well-packaged in butcher-paper, with bubble-wrap, side-padding, & a carry-handle that made planting this exceptional specimen very easy. This cactus came with excellent, comprehensive planting & care instructions that were very easy to understand & follow. Cactus Outlet customer service & communication was fast & informative in addressing my concerns & questions. Are they expensive? Yes they are. However, the size, shape, health, & quality of the Ferocactus Pringlei I was shipped is definitely better than any of the same-type specimens available in my local area greenhouse-style nurseries. So the higher value is definitely worth the higher price; in my opinion.
