Aloe Nobilis

Image 1 Image 2 Image 3

Aloe nobilis, commonly known as Golden Tooth Aloe or Golden Aloe, is a species of aloe native to South Africa, specifically the Eastern Cape region. The leaves are thick and fleshy, with prominent spines along the margins. Mature plants can reach a height of about 1 to 2 feet and a width of 1 to 2 feet. Aloe nobilis produces offsets or "pups" around the base to form an attractive cluster. Aloe nobilis will need to be covered when temperatures go below 28 degrees.

1. Design Suggestions:

Xeriscape Gardens: Aloe nobilis is well-suited for xeriscaping, which involves landscaping with drought-tolerant plants to conserve water. Its striking rosette form and vibrant golden-yellow flowers make it a beautiful addition to dry gardens.

Rock Gardens: Given its native habitat on rocky slopes, Aloe nobilis complements rock gardens beautifully. Plant it among rocks and gravel to mimic its natural environment, providing excellent drainage for the plant.

Container Gardens: In colder climates, grow Aloe nobilis in containers that can be brought indoors during the winter months. This allows you to enjoy its beauty year-round while protecting it from frost. Aloe nobilis also makes an easy care house plant.

Accent Plant: Use Aloe nobilis as a focal point or accent plant in succulent gardens or desert-themed landscapes. Its bright flowers and distinctive form add interest and texture to garden beds or container arrangements.

Mass Plantings: Plant multiple Aloe nobilis specimens in groups or clusters for a dramatic effect. The repetition of its bold form and color creates visual impact and cohesion in the landscape.

When incorporating Aloe nobilis into your landscape or container garden, remember to provide well-draining soil, ample sunlight, and minimal water, as it is adapted to arid conditions. Additionally, be cautious of overwatering, as this can lead to root rot.

With proper care, Aloe nobilis can thrive and enhance the beauty of your outdoor or indoor space. Our Aloe nobilis plants are in 5gal containers and are averaging 8" tall and wide. All of our plants are shipped bare root.

Aloe design and application suggestions:

The Aloe family is vast. Some aloes are small and solitary. Some aloes are small and make colonies. Some aloes can grow tall on a trunk and look tree-like. Some aloes have red leaves when stressed. The “blue elf” aloe has bluish leaves. Aloes bloom from November through March here in North America. The flower stalks vary in color from orange, red and yellow.

There is an aloe for any design idea you may have. The aloe family makes a very interesting low maintenance container plant that tolerates a wide range of lighting conditions. Aloes will be happy on a window sill or in a sunroom, bright room or patio setting. In the landscape, Aloes can deal with part shade or full sun. We recommend covering aloes in areas where the night time temperatures get below freezing although we offer some aloes that are reliably hardy to the mid twenties at night. It is always better to cover frost sensitive plants.

Why purchase our Aloes?

Our Aloes are grown right here in Southern Arizona. The climate here is very close to their native habitats in Southern Africa. Raised outdoors with just the right amount of water and fertilizer, they come to you in their natural form. These plants do not come to you from a greenhouse. They are already hardy to whatever growing conditions you have to offer. Our Aloes present the same appearance as you will find them in their native habitats.

If you want to plant them in a container for a sunroom, patio or window planter, great! If you want to take your new aloes and plant them in the ground, also great! No acclimation needed. Our plants are ready to go!
