Partridge Breast Aloe

Image 1 Image 2 Image 3

Aloe variegata, commonly known as Tiger Aloe or Partridge Breast Aloe, is a succulent plant known for its distinctive appearance and attractive variegated leaves.

The Partridge Breast Aloe is indigenous to the rocky cliffs and hillsides of South Africa, particularly in the Eastern Cape Province.

Aloe variegata or Tiger Aloe typically grows in a rosette form, with leaves arranged in a circular pattern around a central point. The leaves are fleshy, triangular, and have distinctive white to pale green stripes or spots, giving the plant its variegated appearance. The Partridge Breast aloe is a relatively small aloe, with mature plants reaching heights of about 12 to 18 inches. Aloe variegata produces tubular orange to red flowers on tall stems during the blooming season.

The Tiger aloe is known for its relatively good cold tolerance compared to some other succulent species.
While it can withstand mild frost, it is still best suited for warm or temperate climates. In colder regions, it is often grown in containers that can be moved indoors during winter to protect it from freezing temperatures.

Ornamental Uses:

Rock Gardens: Aloe variegata is well-suited for rock gardens, where its compact size and visually striking leaves can add interest to the landscape.

Container Gardening: The Partridge Breast aloe is commonly grown in containers, making it suitable for patio or balcony gardens. Containers also allow for easy movement indoors during colder seasons.

Drought-Tolerant Landscapes: Aloe variegata is drought-tolerant and is often used in water-wise or xeriscaping landscapes.

Indoor Cultivation: It can be grown indoors as a houseplant, provided it receives bright light.

Our shipping process guarantees your Aloe Variegata will come to you in pristine condition and wrapped in a way that makes planting easy!

Aloe design and application suggestions:

The Aloe family is vast. Some aloes are small and solitary. Some aloes are small and make colonies. Some aloes can grow tall on a trunk and look tree-like. Some aloes have red leaves when stressed. The “blue elf” aloe has bluish leaves. Aloes bloom from November through March here in North America. The flower stalks vary in color from orange, red and yellow.

There is an aloe for any design idea you may have. The aloe family makes a very interesting low maintenance container plant that tolerates a wide range of lighting conditions. Aloes will be happy on a window sill or in a sunroom, bright room or patio setting. In the landscape, Aloes can deal with part shade or full sun. We recommend covering aloes in areas where the night time temperatures get below freezing although we offer some aloes that are reliably hardy to the mid twenties at night. It is always better to cover frost sensitive plants.

Why purchase our Aloes?

Our Aloes are grown right here in Southern Arizona. The climate here is very close to their native habitats in Southern Africa. Raised outdoors with just the right amount of water and fertilizer, they come to you in their natural form. These plants do not come to you from a greenhouse. They are already hardy to whatever growing conditions you have to offer. Our Aloes present the same appearance as you will find them in their native habitats.

If you want to plant them in a container for a sunroom, patio or window planter, great! If you want to take your new aloes and plant them in the ground, also great! No acclimation needed. Our plants are ready to go!

Spectacular plants, very competent service

I first chose the Saguaro Cactus, a small one. Next came Old Man of the Andes. The big surprise was the Red Barrel from Baja (knocked my socks off!). And finally the Partridge Breast Aloe, tame looking compared to the cacti, but a beauty nevertheless. As each arrived on my stoop here in VA, I was impressed by the consistent care in preparation and packaging. All arrived as healthy specimens with no signs of rough transport across the US. Very happy with my purchases & am confident that I can count on continued support as my succulent experience matures.

Beautiful plant

Received plant in excellent condition. Plant seemed to be thriving and even produced seven flower stalks. When I went to trim back the dried stalks, the plant fell over. There were no roots attached to the plant. Called Cactus Outlet and they explained how to try to save the plant. Waiting to see how it responds now. I really like this plant so I hope it survives. Proper sourcing is key!!

This aloe is unique and on the smaller side. I can tell that this plant was raised well and tended to appropriately. Upon arrival at my home, it was healthier than expected and in impeccable condition.

This plant can handle some colder weather

Living on the east coast, I was searching for a plant that can handle a bit of the cold. So far so good- I think I made the right decision :)
