Peruvian Apple

Image 1 Image 2 Image 3

Cereus peruvianus, commonly known as the Peruvian apple cactus, is a large columnar cactus native to South America. Cereus peruvianus is native to several South American countries, including Peru, Argentina, Bolivia and Ecuador. It has also been introduced to other regions with suitable climates.

The Peruvian Apple Cactus is a large, columnar cactus that can grow to significant heights. It typically branches out from the base, forming multiple arms that give it a candelabra-like appearance.

Cereus peruvianus is generally more tolerant of cooler temperatures compared to some other cactus species but still prefers warm climates. It can withstand mild frost for short periods, but prolonged exposure to freezing temperatures can lead to damage. Protection from frost is advisable in colder regions.

Ornamental Uses:

Landscaping: The Peruvian Apple Cactus is commonly used in landscaping, especially in regions with a mild or warm climate. Its tall and branching form adds a dramatic and sculptural element to gardens.

Container Gardening: It is suitable for container gardening, allowing for flexibility in placement and the ability to bring the cactus indoors during cold periods.

Xeriscaping: With its ability to thrive in arid conditions, Cereus peruvianus is often used in xeriscaping and water-wise landscapes.

Focal Point: Due to its size and unique form, the cactus can serve as a focal point in gardens or in containers, providing visual interest. Commonly used as an indoor plant in rooms with bright light.

Flowering:

Cereus peruvianus produces large, showy, nocturnal flowers. The flowers are typically white and can be quite fragrant. This cactus produces edible fruits that are commonly referred to as "Peruvian Apples" or "Dragon Fruit." The fruits are often red or pink on the exterior, with a sweet and juicy interior.

Why purchase our Columnar Cacti?

Our columnar cacti are grown in their native habitat right here in Southern Arizona. Raised outdoors with just the right amount of water and fertilizer, they come to you in their natural form. These plants do not come to you from a greenhouse. They are already hardy to whatever growing conditions you have to offer. Our columnar cacti present the same appearance as you will find them in their native habitats.

If you want to plant them in a container for a sunroom, patio or window planter, great! If you want to take your columnar cacti and plant them in the ground, also great! No acclimation needed. Our plants are ready to go!

Super impressed

My wife loves cactus and succulents. So I wanted to get her something I knew she would love. She recently lost this same cactus she had for four years, due to frost. I ordered two cactus and some of the soil. As soon as she saw it she was stoked. The cactus were awesome and already started to root. Super healthy, and I could not be happier with my purchase. You can tell these people love their job and making people happy. I’m sure we will be ordering more from Cactus Outlet.

Very nice peruvian apple cactus, but....

I was very excited to receive my apple cactus. The transaction and shipping was awesome. However, I'm giving 4 stars. I discovered during unpacking that my cactus was punctured in 2 places. This is not a good look when planted in a professional or high end seting. Fortunately, its healing over, but it makes the plant unattractive.
