Another addition to the cactus outlet barrel family. Ferocactus histrix or Candy Barrel cactus is a barrel cactus native to central Mexico known for producing an edible, sour and tasty fruit. The spines of the Candy Barrel cactus present as a mix of yellow, red and orange. In habitat these solitary barrel cacti can reach heights of three feet. Hardy in landscapes in zones 9-11.

We have been growing these Candy Barrel cacti in Southern Arizona for years and they can take temperatures to the upper 20s at night with no cold damage. The candy barrel cactus is a very interesting minimal care potted plant for those in cooler climates. You can not typically buy these plants at the larger size we offer. Our 5 gallon plants measure 8"x8" and do produce flowers.
