Totem Pole

Image 1 Image 2 Image 3

Also know as Lophocereus Schotti var. monstrosus cactus. The Totem Pole is a completely spineless mutant form of the Sonoran Senita cactus from Baja, Mexico. This multi-column cactus has a knobby growth habit and is equally stunning in a landscape or a container.

There are two forms of the Totem pole cactus. "Major" has thicker columns and more pronounced bumps and knobs on them. "Minor" has thinner columns and a more wavy appearance. "Minor" tends to grow a little faster and gets arms a little bit faster than the "Major" variant.

The Totem Pole Cactus has a unique and unusual growth habit characterized by a twisted and contorted stem with irregularly spaced, distorted ribs. Mature specimens can reach heights of several feet, and the growth pattern is often unpredictable and irregular. The Totem Pole Cactus is adapted to warm and arid climates. It is not highly cold-tolerant and may require protection from frost and freezing temperatures. In colder climates, it is often grown in containers that can be moved indoors during winter.

Ornamental Uses:

Container Gardening: The Totem Pole Cactus is popular for container gardening, allowing for versatility in placement on patios, decks, or balconies.

Xeriscaping: Due to its unique appearance and adaptation to arid conditions, it is suitable for xeriscaping and water-wise landscapes.

Focal Point: The twisted and contorted stems make it an excellent focal point in gardens or containers, especially in succulent or cactus gardens.

Rock Gardens: The irregular growth habit and distinctive form of the Totem Pole Cactus make it suitable for rock gardens.

Sculptural Element: The cactus adds a sculptural and architectural element to indoor and outdoor spaces, and its quirky appearance can be a conversation piece.

The Totem Pole Cactus is valued for its eccentric appearance and is a favorite among succulent and cacti enthusiasts for its quirky and eye-catching features.

Why purchase our Columnar Cacti?

Our columnar cacti are grown in their native habitat right here in Southern Arizona. Raised outdoors with just the right amount of water and fertilizer, they come to you in their natural form. These plants do not come to you from a greenhouse. They are already hardy to whatever growing conditions you have to offer. Our columnar cacti present the same appearance as you will find them in their native habitats.

If you want to plant them in a container for a sunroom, patio or window planter, great! If you want to take your columnar cacti and plant them in the ground, also great! No acclimation needed. Our plants are ready to go!

Buyer beware!!! While my $100.+ Totem Pole Cactus arrived well packaged and quickly the plant had a deep 3.5 inch vertical cut running vertically from just below dirt line up and is not acceptable. I have called twice and sent four emails with pictures asking for help...crickets! Will be contacting credit card company for help later today.

We are stunned that this customer left this review on January 9th after sending him this email on January 8th. We always stand behind our products and our reviews attest to that fact. The plant was damaged in transit.

Hello,

The totem pole will heal up over time. You can plant it. The box was likely mishandled/dropped during transport. They can crack like that if the box is dropped on the root side of the plant. We are sending you a new one and it will be shipped tomorrow.

Sincerely,

Mike Hymson

Way beyond my expectaions!

First time ordering from Cactus Outlet, but definitely will not be my last. My totem cactus arrived packaged so carefully and fully. As we began unwrapping our new member, it became very apparent that this was a very well cared for cactus and very healthy. I wanted one a bit larger but did not expect it to be 24" with babies. There is not a nursery around that can match the quality of cactus that I received from this company. I just can't say enough about it. I will be purchasing more for friends and family from this company in the near future.

This is the third time I’ve ordered cactus from The Cactus Outlet and every time the plants have been perfectly packaged and healthy. Take advantage of the ribbons that are placed around the plants to help unpack them. A very professional company!

Gives me a new appreciation for Baja

Everyone who sees it is startled … “It’s like from another planet”. I love it. Sort of the opposite of the Saguaro with all its defenses, the Totempole lets it all hang out, almost naked. Unlike you desert dwellers, we here in the east (VA) have to protect our cactus friends from our rains. They become like our pets, requiring constant monitoring. A threat of showers and I set my watch alarm. Protecting my cactus becomes Number One of my tasks. With a few minutes notice I cover them. & when the sun reappears I set them free. When a road trip takes me away for a day or five, especially during a long absence, I set my cactus inside. As my pets grow into bigger pots, this is a labor of love. Not complaining.
