Senita

Image 1 Image 2 Image 3

Also know as Lophocereus Schotti, this multi-column cactus grows to 10 feet or more. Grows very similar to the Organ pipe, Mexican fence post and Totem pole cacti. Totem pole cacti are the spineless mutant sub species of the Senita cactus.

Multiple branches form from the bottom of the main stem of the Senita cactus as the plant matures. The Senita gets dense spines that look like hair covering the tops of the individual columns as they age. These cacti will tolerate nights into the mid-twenties and have the classic Southwest desert look. Very low maintenance container or landscape plants.

The Senita cactus is tolerant of warm and very hot climates. While it can withstand mild frost for short periods, it is not highly cold-tolerant. In regions with colder winters, protection from frost is recommended. Container cultivation allows for easier protection during cold spells, as the plant can be moved indoors.

Ornamental Uses:

Landscaping Focal Point: The Senita cactus is a popular choice for landscaping due to its striking and unique appearance. It can serve as a focal point in gardens, xeriscapes, or desert-themed landscapes.

Container Gardening: Its columnar growth habit makes it suitable for container gardening, allowing for versatility in placement on patios, decks, or balconies.

Xeriscaping: Lophocereus schottii is well-suited for xeriscaping or water-wise landscaping, as it is adapted to arid conditions.

Architectural Interest: The vertical structure of the cactus adds architectural interest to outdoor spaces, and it contrasts well with other plants in a garden.

The Senita cactus is valued for its unique form and minimal maintenance requirements, making it a sought-after choice for succulent and cactus enthusiasts.

Columnar Cacti design and application suggestions:

Columnar cacti are impactful and dramatic. Frame an entryway, put one in an office corner that is just screaming for something interesting or if you are lucky to live in a suitable outdoor environment, install a few columnar cacti in the landscape for dramatic effect. Our columnar cacti are equally happy in a decorative pot or planted in the ground.

Our columnar cacti offer you different colors and growth forms. The totem pole and curiosity cacti have very interesting growth habits. The Mexican fence postperuvian appleorgan pipe, saguaro and senita offer elegance and presence. The curiosity cactisilver and golden torch offer splashes of color to integrate with your space.

Why purchase our Columnar Cacti?

Our columnar cacti are grown in their native habitat right here in Southern Arizona. Raised outdoors with just the right amount of water and fertilizer, they come to you in their natural form. These plants do not come to you from a greenhouse. They are already hardy to whatever growing conditions you have to offer. Our columnar cacti present the same appearance as you will find them in their native habitats.

If you want to plant them in a container for a sunroom, patio or window planter, great! If you want to take your columnar cacti and plant them in the ground, also great! No acclimation needed. Our plants are ready to go!

Big Fan!

Better than expected. Larger than life, arrived in great condition. The only minor issue is that I was expecting some kind of temporary planter but there was none and when I opened the box the soil went all over the room. Following that debacle, couldn’t be happier!

Grows to be pretty big

The spines get bigger and cover more surface area as it gets older. Some of my older Senitas are taller than me!
